Kitimat Modernization Project
Hopcott was retained by Petro-Canada to complete FEED through EPCM services to process existing refinery products into higher value intermediate and final products including:
New 25,000 BPD coker
Revamping of crude/vacuum unit, the hydrocracking unit, hydrotreating unit, the sour water treatment system
Associated utilities and offsites
In 2006, Hopcott began executing the FEED and EPCM package for Petro-Canada’s Montreal Coker Project (originally named the Montreal Horizon Project). The project’s objective was to process existing refinery products into higher value intermediate and final products. Hopcott’s scope consisted of incorporating a new 25,000 bpd coker and revamping a number of process units and utilities within the existing plant. Engineering was executed in multiple locations, through utilization of the Montreal office of the BPR/Bechtel partnership for a number of smaller revamp scopes.
Planned revamp work included modifications to the crude/vacuum unit, the hydrocracking unit, hydrotreating unit, the sour water treatment system and the associated utilities and offsites. Demolition of existing facilities, shutdown and non-shutdown tie-ins and relocation of services were all required to accommodate the new scope.
The project was subsequently placed on indefinate hold, at the time of cancellation, Hopcott had completed a number of scopes including demolition of a number of tanks and spheres, removal of an elevated city bridge across the heavy haul transportation route, site clearing and remediation of the new coker plot, construction of four new LPG spheres, rerouting of a number of piperacks, shutdown tie-ins and installation of a new hydrotreating reactor and a variety of other facilities within the Isomax unit.
